Uzbekistan to cut VAT for foreign visitors next year

Tashkent [Uzbekistan], November 11: Uzbekistan will introduce a tax-free system from January 2023, exempting foreign citizens from value-added tax (VAT), the Uzbek government announced on Thursday.
The VATs foreigners paid when purchasing in the country will be exempted at Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Fergana and Urgench airports at first. Based on its results, from 2024, the refund system will be gradually introduced at all international airports and railway stations, as well as border checkpoints of the Central Asian nation, according to a government resolution.
To enjoy tax refund, foreigners need to register in the Soliq (Tax) mobile application and scan online cash register receipts of the purchases.
Stores under the tax-free system will be marked with signs of text in Uzbek and English, and the products must not be used in Uzbekistan and must be carried by foreign visitors.
