Ukrainian capital attacked again with ballistic missiles

Moscow [Russia], October 26: The Russian military has once again attacked targets in the Ukrainian capital with ballistic missiles.
Two people were killed and the number of injured rose to 12, Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram. Previously, there had been reports of at least eight injured. In addition, several fires broke out in the eastern part of the city of 3 million.
According to unofficial information, thermal power plants located there were once again the targets of the launches. Air-raid sirens sounded briefly across the country due to the possible deployment of a medium-range ballistic missile by Russia.
The Ukrainian military has recaptured the village of Torske, which is important for the defence of the city of Lyman, it said on Saturday.
Up to 100 Russian soldiers were killed and others captured during the assault, the Ukrainian General Staff posted on Telegram.
Torske is a village in the north of the Donetsk region. Before the war, more than 1,000 people lived there, but it has now been largely destroyed.
Shortly after the war began, it was captured by Russian troops, then recaptured by the Ukrainians during their offensive in 2022. Most recently, it fell back into Russian hands.
Torske is important because of its location on a hill on the banks of the Zherebets river. This river forms a natural barrier and makes it difficult for troops to advance towards Lyman, only 13 kilometres to the west, and the conurbation around Sloviansk and Kramatorsk behind it, which the Russian army has so far been unable to capture.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a Russian invasion for more than three and a half years.
