Qin Gang to visit a number of African countries

Beijing [China], January 11: Qin Gang, who became China's foreign minister in late 2022, will visit some African countries from 9 to 16 January, said the ministry's spokesman Wang Wenbin, as reported by TAAS.
"This trip will be the first overseas visit for Qin Gang as the country's foreign minister. It is an indication of the importance for China to maintain and develop traditionally friendly relations with the states of the African continent," the Foreign Ministry spokesman stressed.
For more than three decades, Chinese foreign ministers have regularly visited African countries in official and working meetings, Wang Wenbin added.
Ethiopia, Gabon, Angola, Egypt and Benin will be the first countries to receive the high Chinese guest. Qin Gang will meet his counterparts from these states from January 9 to 16. The Minister plans to visit the headquarters of the African Union and the Arab League.
On 30 December the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress decided that Qin Gang will head China's Foreign Ministry. Former Foreign Minister Wang Yi stepped down from the post he had held since 2013.
