Former US President Biden has skin cancer surgery

Washington [US], September 5: Former US President Joe Biden's spokesman said Mr Biden recently underwent Mohs surgery - a medical procedure used to remove skin cancer lesions.
Biden's spokesman did not specify when the surgery took place on September 4 , but the news came as a video circulated online showing the former president with a scar on his forehead, according to ABC News.
The Mayo Clinic (USA) said: "Mohs surgery involves removing thin layers of skin. Each thin layer is carefully examined for signs of cancer . This process continues until there are no more signs of cancer."
This method is often used to treat cancerous lesions that are recurrent, fast-growing, or in important areas such as the face, hands, or genitals.
Former President Biden 's health has been in the spotlight recently after he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in May that had spread to his bones. Biden later told CNN that he had begun taking medication to treat the cancer.
"We expect we'll be able to beat this. It's not in any organ, my bones are strong, it hasn't invaded. So I feel very good," Biden told CNN.
In 2023, while in office, Mr. Biden had surgery to remove a lesion from his chest. Mr. Biden later tested positive for basal cell carcinoma. At the time, Dr. Kevin O'Connor, Mr. Biden's White House physician, said that "all of the cancerous tissue was successfully removed" and that the leader would continue to "follow up with dermatology."
Former US first lady Jill Biden also underwent Mohs surgery to remove a skin cancer lesion above her right eye, which was discovered during a routine skin cancer screening in January 2023.
