Bulgaria's parliament rejects euro delay

Sofia [Bulgaria], July 9: In a controversial vote, Bulgaria's parliament rejected a referendum back by a far-right party seeking to delay the introduction of the euro.
A pro-Western majority of 98 parliament members voted against a referendum sought by the far-right nationalist and pro-Russian party Vashrazhdane (Rebirth). Only 68 members voted in favour of a referendum. There were 46 abstentions.
The referendum asked parliamentarians to weigh in on whether the Bulgarian lev should remain the country's currency until 2043.
The new pro-Western government in Sofia aims for Bulgaria to join the eurozone in 2025.
