Japanese citizens stage anti-war protests in Tokyo

Tokyo [Japan], August 17: Many Japanese citizens have staged anti-war protests in Tokyo on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of Japan's defeat and unconditional surrender in World War II.
Local demonstrators on Monday took to the streets and raised their voices against war and the amendment of Japan's current pacifist Constitution, expressing their desire to maintain peace.
They held banners reading "No war" and "Yasukuni Shrine Disintegrates", and chanted slogans such as "Yasukuni Shrine is A War Shrine," calling for the closure of Yasukuni Shrine and opposing visits to the shrine.
China has repeatedly stressed that Japan must take history as a mirror, correctly understand and deeply reflect on its past history of aggression, and make a clean break with militarism, so as to win the trust of its Asian neighbors and the international community while facing the future with a responsible attitude, said a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Japan Monday.
